Greenland’s Glaciers Could Submerge the Planet

Posted under General News

Alarm signals are constantly raised on how people treat the Earth’s natural resources. There are the warning signs that the abuse that majority of the population inflicts on nature will backfire and will lead to the suffering of most, if not all inhabitants of this planet. Studies are released on the potential harmful effects of the greenhouse gases. A certain Dr. Jonathan Overpeck and his colleagues from the University of Arizona have made a couple of these scientific researches.

The studies focused on the melting ice sheets in Greenland . The warming of the Earth could lead to significant rise in the sea levels because of the melting or the collapse of the ice sheets affecting even the West Antarctic glaciers. The estimated rise could prove to be catastrophic for all living things - humans and otherwise. If the connection between global warming and the sea level is ignored and unattended, then the danger zone might be achieved faster than initially anticipated.

Simulated tests were conducted to determine the increase in sea level given a parallel hike in temperature. If warming of the Earth persists as a result of the dangerous gases, then the movements of the glaciers are also likely to cause earthquakes and produce seismic waves.
